According to the news report, the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill 2023 was presented in the Senate under Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.
Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar presented the bill in the House. During the meeting, PTI senators demanded that the bill be sent to the committee, while the Chairman Senate suggested that the bill be sent to the committee.
However, Azam Nazir Tarar expressed his opinion that it should be passed on the same day instead of sending the bill to the committee.
The Federal Minister of Law, Azam Nazir Tarar, emphasized the importance of the Parliament’s power to enact legislation, stating that laws should be adaptable to the changing needs of the people over time.
He acknowledged that different eras and attitudes require different approaches to the law.

The Minister added that the law is always active and should have room for change. He emphasized that it is the responsibility of the legislature to enact legislation, and the constitution urges institutions not to interfere unnecessarily in each other’s boundaries.
Azam Nazir Tarar highlights the need to strengthen the system of the Supreme Court rather than relying on the authority of a single person. He mentioned that the misuse of suo motu in the past had cost billions of dollars, and instead, the institution should be strengthened to deliver justice.
According to the bill, the two most senior judges and the Chief Justice will be responsible for taking suo motu, which was approved after the debate in the National Assembly. He also highlighted the importance of the right to a fair trial, as enshrined in Article 10A, and the need for the right of appeal. The bill proposes that a committee of three members will decide for the bench.
It is important to clarify that the correct year for the bill is 2023, not 2033, as previously mentioned.
Additionally, the bill grants the power of” suo mot” notice (automatic notice) to the Chief Justice and the two most senior Supreme Court judges, not just the Chief Justice, as previously stated.
The bill also includes provisions for the right to appeal for individuals such as Nawaz Sharif, Jahangir Tareen, Yousuf Raza Gilani, Talal Chaudhry, Daniyal Aziz, and others.
