The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has directed all branches of banks, including the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC), to observe extended banking hours to facilitate taxpayers in payment of government duties and taxes.
The decision was taken at the request of the Federal Board of Revenue. The central bank has stated the same.
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has directed all branches of banks, including the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and field offices of SBP Banking Services Corporation (SBP-BSC), to observe extended banking hours until 04:00 pm and 06:00 pm on March 30 and 31, 2023, respectively.
To facilitate collection of Govt. duties/taxes, all branches of banks including NBP and SBP BSC field offices will observe extended banking hours till 4pm & 6pm on 30th & 31st March, 2023 respectively.

The directive has been issued at the Federal Board of Revenue’s request to facilitate taxpayers in paying government duties/taxes through ADC’s Over-the-Counter (OTC) facility.

The extended banking hours on March 30 and 31 are a special arrangement to facilitate the payment of government taxes and duties.
Additionally, the statement mentions that National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT) will arrange a special clearing on March 31 to enable the same-day clearing of payment instruments deposited at NBP’s authorized branches for customs collections.
It should be noted that during Ramadan, banks observe reduced hours, with public dealing timings from Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 2 pm (without a break) and on Friday from 8:30 am to 1 pm (without a break). Office timings are from Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 3:30 pm (with a prayer break from 2 pm to 2:30 pm) and on Friday from 8:30 am to 1 pm (without a break).
