The former president and army chief of Pakistan, General (retd) Pervez Musharraf, passed away at the age of 79 on Sunday in the United Arab Emirates. Following his death, his body will be repatriated to Pakistan today on a special flight arriving at 11:30 am.
The Pakistani embassy in the UAE has granted a no objection certificate (NOC) for the repatriation of the body of former military leader and president General Pervez Musharraf. The request was made by his family, which includes his wife Sehba Musharraf, son Bilal and daughter Ayla.\

According to a statement from the Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, ‘’Pakistan’s missions in the UAE have been informed and are facilitating the transportation of Musharraf’s mortal remains to Pakistan. She added that they were in contact with the family and providing all necessary assistance.’’’
As per doctors’ advice, it is necessary to bury the former president’s body immediately upon its arrival in Pakistan. In order to facilitate this, it has been kept in the mortuary of a local hospital in Dubai.
It is not yet clear when exactly Musharraf will be laid to rest or where his final resting place will be. However, sources say that arrangements are being made for his burial at his ancestral graveyard near Islamabad, which is expected to take place soon after his body reaches Pakistan.
The news of Musharraf’s death sent shockwaves throughout Pakistan as he was an iconic figure who served as both President and Chief of Army Staff during his long career.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other politicians expressed their condolences over his demise, with Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) quoting Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad and other tri-services chiefs doing the same.
“CJCSC and services chiefs express heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of General Pervez Musharraf,” an ISPR statement said. “May Allah bless the departed soul and give strength to the bereaved family.”
