Pakistan’s former military president General (retd) Pervez Musharraf has passed away in Dubai after a long illness. He was undergoing treatment at the American Hospital in Dubai.
The Pakistan Army Public Relations Department (ISPR) has also expressed grief over the death of Pervez Musharraf on behalf of the armed forces. Joint Chiefs of the Army Staff Committee and Services Chiefs of the Pakistan Army have expressed their heartfelt condolences on the death of General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf.
Pervez Musharraf served as the Army Chief for nearly nine years (1999-2008), becoming the 10th President of Pakistan in 2001 and holding the position until early 2008.
Pervez Musharraf, who came to power after a military coup in 1999, had been living in the UAE since being granted bail in 2016 for medical treatment.
In the month of June last year, Pervez Musharraf’s family said in a statement that Pervez Musharraf is “in a stage of poor health where recovery is not possible and his organs are failing.”
In the statement issued by Pervez Musharraf’s family, there was also an appeal for prayers for ease in his life.
According to the family, the former military president was suffering from a disease called amyloidosis. In this disease, the protein molecules in the body become dysfunctional and the patient’s organs are affected.
Former President Pervez Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943, in Delhi, he died at the age of 79.
