The federal Cabinet has approved a plan to collect 76 billion rupees from electricity consumers to help control inflation.
According to sources, K Electric and other electricity consumers will be collecting additional payments over the next four months in the form of interest on the power holding company’s loan. The Federal Cabinet has approved this through the circulation of a summary of the Cabinet Division.
The electricity consumers will be charged an additional surcharge of Rs 3.39 paisa per unit from March to June 2023.
The federal Cabinet has approved the imposition of an additional surcharge of one rupee per unit, applicable for the next financial year, 2023-24. Collections will not be made from electricity consumers with less than 300 units, while the additional surcharge will also be imposed on K Electric consumers.
