Babar Azam is the captain of the Pakistan Test, ODI, and T20 teams. In contrast, the vice-captain of the Test team is wicket-keeper Muhammad Rizwan, and all-rounder Shadab Khan is playing the role of Babar Azam’s deputy in ODI and T20.
There are reports that the Pakistan Cricket Board is considering removing Shadab Khan from the post.
24-year-old Shadab Khan, who led Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League, was made vice-captain in 2020.
In December 2020, Shadab Khan became the national cricket team captain for three T20 matches in New Zealand, as Babar Azam was absent.

When the national selection committee recently decided to rest five senior players, including Babar Azam, for three T20I matches against Afghanistan in Sharjah, Shadab Khan was made captain.
However, the team faced defeats in both series, and Shadab Khan’s leadership was unsuccessful. In January 2023, Test opener Shaun Masood was appointed Babar Azam’s deputy for three ODIs against New Zealand, as Shadab Khan could not participate due to an injury.
