Star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has expressed his belief that the Saudi Pro League has the potential to become one of the top-five leagues in the world if they can attract more prominent names to join.
Ronaldo, who completed his first season at Al Nassr in the Saudi League after a high-profile deal in December, stated that he has enjoyed his time in the Gulf nation and confirmed his commitment to continuing with the team in the upcoming season.
In an interview with the SPL, Ronaldo expressed his contentment, saying, “I am happy here, I want to continue here, I will continue here.” He further shared his perspective that if the league can sustain its current trajectory for the next five years, it has the potential to be among the world’s top-five leagues.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner emphasized the importance of attracting more renowned players, stating that their presence would elevate the league’s status. Ronaldo stated, “If they are coming, big players and big names, young players, ‘old players,’ they are very welcome because if that happens, the league will improve.”
Ronaldo’s comments coincide with ongoing speculation about the potential moves of other football stars, such as Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema, and Luka Modric, to the Saudi League. It has been confirmed that Messi will leave PSG after their final Ligue 1 fixture and is likely to play in Saudi Arabia next season under a lucrative deal.
Benzema and Modric, Ronaldo’s former teammates at Real Madrid, are also believed to be in advanced negotiations with Saudi clubs for attractive deals. The potential arrival of these renowned players would further enhance the league’s competitiveness and global appeal.
While acknowledging the Saudi League’s strengths, Ronaldo noted areas for improvement, such as infrastructure and the speed of the VAR system. He emphasized the need for continuous growth and enhancement, stating, “The league is very good, but I think we have many opportunities to still grow. We have very good teams and very good Arab players.”
Ronaldo’s positive outlook on the Saudi Pro League and his endorsement of its potential for growth will certainly raise interest and attention, adding to the league’s aspirations of reaching new heights in the global football landscape.
