The hearing was held on the petitions filed for permission to change the working hours of restaurants given the month of Ramadan, not for the remedy of smog.
Justice Shahid Kareem heard the petitions of citizen Haroon Farooq and others who had requested permission to change the working hours of restaurants during Ramadan.
The court granted permission to extend the working hours of restaurants till 2:00 am during Ramadan. The court also directed the Punjab government to ensure restaurants follow COVID-19 standard operating procedures during Ramadan.

During a hearing in the Lahore High Court regarding petitions for smog remediation filed by citizen Haroon Farooq and others, a petitioner’s lawyer raised the issue that restaurants were facing problems due to the restriction on their working hours during Ramadan.
The lawyer argued that restaurants closed at 11 pm would be easier to reopen for Sehar. After hearing the argument, the court permitted the restaurants to open from Iftar to Sehar during Ramadan.
It is worth noting that earlier, the court had ordered the closure of all restaurants in Lahore at 10 pm to combat smog but later extended the closing time by an hour to 11 pm.
