Railway workers protest

LAHORE: On Jan 30, Railway employees protested against the federal government’s demands to resolve salary disbursement and pay on time.

On Monday (Jan 30) a huge number of railway employees gathered at the Pakistan Railway locomotive shed to express their pressing concerns over delays in salaries from the past eight months and demanded the release of their salaries on an immediate basis.

Employees stated that this inconvenience has made them live in utter despair as their survival is badly affected due to the delay.

Railway minister Khawaja Saad Rafique’s statement

Despite railway employees’ disappointment over the ongoing situation, Railway minister Khawaja Saad Rafique stated that branding of various railway stations along with trains will take place within 60 days and the protection of equipment will be specially taken care of.

Further, he stated how the support of the private sector played a part in the prosperity of the railway sector and has given a boost to the Pakistan economy. Moreover, we will work to provide opportunities for the private sector as this can play an integral role in the promotion and overall infrastructure.

During his address to the railway subsidiary in the branding ceremony, he announced that the project is fast-paced with 60 trains already arriving at Lahore station with the manufacturing of the rest of the trains here in Pakistan.

He further added that similar steps were taken in the past for the prosperity of railway stations but failed due to corruption and the appointment of incompetent people within the sector. But now, the situation is changing with many new steps incorporated to bring the institution back on its feet. This might be hard to achieve as it is a challenging task to bring corrupt institutions back on the way to prosperity.

Despite the railway station going through a difficult time, being in charge, I will keep putting effort to make things better and as a whole “WE Won’t GIVE UP”.

Besides Rafique, PR Chairman Syed Mazhar Ali Shah, Chief Executive Salman Sadiq Sheikh, and Railcop MD Syed Najam Saeed, Various private companies representatives were present at the event.
