Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General and member of the PTI core committee, Asad Umar, has announced his resignation from party positions, according to reports. Speaking at a press conference, Asad Umar stated that his decision to resign is not due to any external pressure but is a personal choice.

Umar highlighted that various surveys indicate the PTI as the most popular political party in Pakistan at present, and he cited the party’s recent win in a by-election as evidence of its popularity. He also mentioned that two months ago, the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Core Commander conference had suggested resolving issues through dialogue.

In related news, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the immediate release of Asad Umar, who had been under arrest. This development follows a series of resignations within the PTI, including Fawad Chaudhry, the party’s senior vice president, who also parted ways with Chairman Imran Khan.

It is worth mentioning that several PTI lawmakers and members have left the party following the violent events of May 9, during which military installations, including the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and the Corps Commander House in Lahore, were attacked after Imran Khan’s arrest.

The PTI faced significant setbacks as former Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari and former Punjab Minister Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan resigned from the party in response to the violence on May 9.

On that day, violent clashes erupted throughout Pakistan after the arrest of former Prime Minister and PTI Chief Imran Khan at the Islamabad High Court. Protests were held in both remote and major cities as PTI workers expressed their dissatisfaction over their leader’s arrest. Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad called upon the armed forces to ensure law and order.

During the PTI protest, army installations and the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore were targeted. These incidents have prompted a wave of resignations within the party, including Asad Umar’s decision to step down from his party positions.
