Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has asserted that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan will face interrogation regarding the events that unfolded on May 9. Speaking to the media outside the parliament, Asif labeled the perpetrators of the attacks on military installations and symbols of martyrs as “trained terrorists.”
Minister Asif stated that the attacks were executed as part of a well-planned strategy, allegedly orchestrated by Imran Khan himself. He accused the PTI chairman of inciting violence against army installations, despite the army having no connection to him.
Imran Khan was apprehended on May 9 from the premises of the Islamabad High Court, which led to his supporters taking to the streets and targeting significant military sites, including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and the Lahore Corps Commander’s House, commonly known as the Jinnah House.
Responding to a query, Minister Asif dismissed the claims made by the PTI, particularly its overseas workers, that 25 people lost their lives during the May 9 riots. He labeled these assertions as false and based on lies, affirming that no such incidents occurred and that no PTI worker or supporter was killed.
Addressing the budget, the defence minister praised the finance minister, Ishaq Dar, stating that given the current circumstances, no one could have presented a better budget. He highlighted that despite limited resources, the budget aimed to provide relief to all segments of society, including the salaried class and the middle class who have been facing hardships.
When questioned about the scheduled date for the country’s elections, Minister Asif assured that the elections would be held on time.
In summary, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has accused PTI Chairman Imran Khan of involvement in the May 9 incidents and stated that he will be interrogated accordingly. The minister also refuted claims of casualties during the riots and expressed confidence in the timely conduct of elections.
