Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is taking a strong stance against the coalition parties of the government attempting to hold by-elections. In a recent phone call with MQM Pakistan convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, he requested that Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui refrains from participating in the upcoming by-elections.
Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said in a telephonic conversation that MQM has already boycotted the local body elections. He further added that it remains to be seen how boycotting the by-elections will be for MQM. He highlighted the difference between the political conditions of Karachi and Punjab, emphasizing that the same decision may only be suitable for some places.
Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui assured Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to convene a coordination committee meeting soon.
It’s important to remember that the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) has decided not to participate in the upcoming by-elections. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed PML-N candidates to withdraw their applications, per the party president’s instructions. Following the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) decision, PML-N will no longer be a part of the by-elections for the National Assembly.

The leadership of PML-N is facing a difficult decision in the current situation. As they participate, they may face losses in the upcoming by-elections. Meanwhile, the PDM leaders need help to visit their constituencies, and the PP leadership is feeling the pressure of the PDM. The PDM suggested that the PPP not participate in the by-elections, and the PPP has decided to consult further on this matter.
As professionals, we understand the difficulties of facing this type of decision. We recognize that there is a need for a joint decision to be made and urge all parties to take a friendly approach when deliberating. We hope that together, the PDM and PPP can find a satisfactory solution that meets the needs of all stakeholders.
