In the run-up to the Minar Pakistan rally, the police have intensified their crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists in Lahore and Rawalpindi.
PTI leader Salman Ahmed was among those arrested in Lahore.
In Rawalpindi, police have conducted raids at the homes of PTI workers, central leaders and officials.
The crackdown has resulted in the arrest of several PTI workers in different parts of the country, leading to criticism from the party, which has accused the government of using such tactics to suppress the opposition. The PTI rally at Minar Pakistan is expected to draw a large crowd tonight.

Police sources have stated that they plan to conduct night raids in Rawalpindi to arrest PTI central leaders such as Aamir Kayani, Ghulam Sarwar Khan, Raja Basharat, City President Mian Imran Hayat, and City Information Secretary Raja Usman, among others.
However, the PTI leaders have gone into hiding to avoid arrest. The police have been conducting raids for a week, resulting in the detention of 33 activists, who the courts later released.
