KARACHI: Unknown armed suspects ambushed in the Gulistan-Johar area and killed a member of the Pakistan Ulema Association who was also the central leader of the Sunni Ulema Council.
In the early morning of Tuesday, 50-year-old Maulana Abdul Qayyum Sufi Naqshbandi, a member of the Pakistan Ulema Association and a Sunni, was shot dead by unknown armed assailants riding a motorcycle in Block 9 Magsi Chowk Street No. 3 of Gulistan e Johar police station area.
On receiving information about the incident, officers and men of police, rangers, and law enforcement agencies reached the spot. The crime scene unit was called to collect evidence and the body of the victim was taken to Jinnah Hospital for post-mortem.
According to the police, Maulana Abdul Qayyum Sufi was walking from the mosque to his home after offering the Fajr prayer, when two unidentified armed men on a motorcycle ambushed him near his home, shot him dead, and fled.

The deceased Maulana Abdul Qayyum was hit by a bullet in the head which proved to be fatal. The deceased was a father of 4 children. Immediately after the incident, central leaders of the Pakistan Ulama Association and Sunni Ulama Council, office bearers, madrassa students, and local residents reached the spot in large numbers.
The CCTV footage of the Maulana Abdul Qayyum murder incident has come to light, in which it can be seen that the armed suspects are fleeing after killing Maulana Abdul Qayyum Sufi.
One of the accused got off the bike and came near Maulana Abdul Qayyum and opened fire while the other remained on the bike. The armed accused shot a bullet into the head of Maulana Abdul Qayyum Sufi and escaped.
