A meeting between Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi took place in Lahore on Wednesday, but it concluded on a sour note, as reported by The News.
Following the meeting, Qureshi, who had earlier claimed to carry a flag of justice after his release from jail, departed for Karachi without addressing a scheduled press conference. Qureshi had been released from Rawalpindi jail on May 6, having faced multiple arrests under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance.
According to a close friend of Qureshi in Multan, the PTI vice chairman advised the former prime minister to temporarily step back, consider going abroad, or at least maintain silence if he did not wish to leave the country. He further urged the PTI chairman to allow him and others to resolve the issues and let the process of reconciliation proceed in the meantime. Qureshi assured the ex-PM that he could reassume leadership of the party once everything had been rectified.
Qureshi emphasized the importance of making wise decisions rather than succumbing to emotions during these challenging times. Sources revealed that the meeting became heated, with both individuals exchanging harsh words.
Qureshi conveyed to the PTI chairman that retired individuals who were misleading him would be of no help in the current circumstances. Khan expressed his anger at Qureshi in response. Subsequently, Qureshi left Zaman Park for Karachi without engaging with the media.
Efforts to contact Qureshi for confirmation of these developments proved futile, as all his phone numbers were switched off.
Following the heated exchange with Qureshi, Imran Khan released a video address reiterating most of his previous statements.
