Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan criticized Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Sunday for attempting to conceal the ill-treatment of PTI workers, particularly women, who are currently in custody. The criticism came after Sanaullah held a post-midnight press conference where he claimed that intelligence agencies had intercepted a conversation indicating the PTI’s plans for two separate actions, which he referred to as “dramas.”

While providing limited details, the minister stated that the intercepted conversation revealed the PTI’s intention to carry out an action at a specific location, without specifying further. He also alleged that the conversation suggested a planned “rape act” that would be blamed on law enforcement personnel.
Imran Khan responded to the press conference, accusing Sanaullah of attempting to cover up and preempt the anticipated revelations about mistreatment, calling the minister a “certified criminal” in a tweet.
Imran Khan expressed concern about the mistreatment and harassment faced by women under the current government while peacefully protesting. He lamented that women had never experienced such mistreatment and harassment by the state as they have under the rule of what he termed a “fascist government.”
Following Imran Khan’s brief arrest earlier in the month, street protests erupted, leading to a crackdown by security forces against the PTI and subsequent attacks on civil and military institutions, including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi and the Lahore Corps Commander’s House (Jinnah House). Since then, several PTI leaders, including Fawad Chaudhry, Shireen Mazari, Ali Zaidi, and others, have left the party.
In a separate tweet, Imran Khan criticized the raids conducted at the residences of Omar Ayub and Shahzad Akbar. He expressed concerns about the current state of affairs, highlighting constitutional violations, disregard for court decisions, unwarranted house break-ins, media censorship, and the lack of protection for fundamental rights.
Throughout the crackdown, Imran Khan has consistently condemned the government for human rights violations, particularly those targeting women.
In a tweet, he acknowledged the bravery of Pakistani women standing up for their rights and emphasized that the mistreatment and abuse inflicted upon them by security forces would not be forgotten.
He highlighted the plight of those currently imprisoned under harsh conditions and vowed that their suffering would also be remembered.
