Sri Lankan cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka will face trial for a rape charge related to an alleged incident that occurred while he was in Australia to participate in the Twenty20 World Cup last year.
The 32-year-old player was suspended by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) immediately after his arrest in November, but last month, three out of the four sexual assault charges against him were dropped.
Gunathilaka pleaded not guilty to the remaining charge of sexual intercourse without consent during a court appearance in Sydney on Thursday, as reported by the Australian Associated Press (AAP).
Gunathilaka, an accomplished top-order batsman who has represented his country in over 100 matches across all formats, also sought to modify his bail conditions. He requested to report to the police three times a week instead of daily, according to AAP.
