Google has reportedly enhanced its photo recognition capabilities in the Google Photos app. The app can now recognize people even if their faces are not visible in the captured photos.
Android Authority’s Rita El Khoury discovered this feature when she received photo suggestions of her husband, despite his face being hidden in the images. It is believed that Google Photos creates a model of a person’s face using various photos and videos in the user’s library or combines location data and scene analysis to confirm the person’s identity. This feature allows for accurate tagging of individuals in old photos where their faces are not visible. If Google Photos is uncertain, it prompts the user to manually tag the person.
Additionally, Android Police found a new feature in Google Photos called “Cinematic Photo effect.” This feature provides a simulated cinematic effect to regular photos by slowly zooming into the image. Previously, users would only receive suggestions for photos that were automatically selected by the app. The Cinematic Photo effect is expected to be rolled out as a server-side update and can be accessed in the Library tab under the Utilities section in the Create New category.
These new capabilities in Google Photos showcase the advancements in photo recognition and editing features, making it easier for users to organize and enhance their photo collections.
