Hussain Elahi Quits PTI

Former Member of the National Assembly (MNA), Hussain Elahi, has announced his departure from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and his rejoining of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), according to reports. Hussain Elahi, the son of Wajahat Hussain, stated that the intolerable violence on May 9 has led to the termination of their coalition with the PTI.

Hussain Elahi emphasized the influential role of PML-Q President Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain, who is regarded as their elder, and expressed his commitment to abiding by his father’s decision. Wajahat Hussain, Hussain Elahi’s father and former minister, previously announced his withdrawal of support for PTI President Pervaiz Elahi in response to the violence that occurred on May 9.

During a press conference in Lahore, Wajahat Hussain vehemently condemned the events of May 9, which included attacks on military installations, including the Corps Commander House in Lahore. He stated that both he and his son, Chaudhry Hussain Elahi, have parted ways with the PTI.

The May 9 incidents triggered violent clashes throughout Pakistan following the arrest of former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan at the Islamabad High Court. Protests were held in various cities, both major and remote, as PTI workers expressed their discontent over their leader’s arrest. Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad witnessed demonstrations, leading to the summoning of armed forces to maintain law and order.

During the PTI protest, army installations and the Corps Commander’s house in Lahore were targeted. The severity of the situation prompted widespread condemnation, including the decision of prominent figures like Wajahat Hussain and Hussain Elahi to sever their ties with the PTI and realign themselves with the PML-Q.
