Rawalpindi: Pakistan defeated New Zealand by 5 wickets. In the first match of the one-day series played in Rawalpindi, Pakistan achieved the target of 289 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the 49th over.
Fakhar Zaman scored 117 runs for Pakistan. Imam-ul-Haq was dismissed for 60 and captain Babar Azam scored 49 runs. Wicketkeeper-batsman Muhammad Rizwan returned to the pavilion not out after scoring 42 runs.
On behalf of New Zealand, Adam Mullen took 2 wickets while Player Tickner, Ish Soodi, and Rondra Richan took 1 and 1 wicket respectively.
Earlier, New Zealand scored 288 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 50 overs while batting first on Pakistan’s invitation.
Daryl Mitchell played a brilliant innings of 113 runs on behalf of New Zealand. Will Young 86, Tom Latham 20, Chad Bowes 18, Mark Chapman 15, and Rondra Richan scored 9 runs.
Henry Nickels returned to the pavilion not out after scoring 20 runs.
