Three exceptional batsmen have emerged as contenders for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award following their outstanding performances throughout May.
Pakistan’s captain once again showcased his leadership skills and prowess with the bat during the team’s home ODI series against New Zealand.
In the first two matches played at the end of April, Pakistan secured victories, setting the stage for their continued success in early May, ultimately winning the series 4-1.
Unsurprisingly, Babar’s contributions played a vital role in the team’s positive results. On May 3, he formed a century partnership with Imam-ul-Haq, scoring 54 off 62 balls as Pakistan posted a total of 287/6. In the field, he skillfully utilized six bowlers, limiting the tourists to 261 runs.
Taking his performance to the next level in the subsequent match two days later, Babar claimed the Player of the Match accolade in a commanding 102-run victory that put Pakistan 4-1 ahead in the series. Babar’s outstanding innings of 107 (117) marked his 18th ODI century, propelling the hosts to a formidable total of 334/6.
Meanwhile, Najmul Hossain Shanto continued his impressive run, displaying exceptional form in the ODI series against Ireland.
Batting at No.3, Najmul began the series with a solid knock of 44, although rain resulted in a no-result outcome for the match.
In the second match, Najmul’s heroics led to a remarkable victory for Bangladesh. Chasing a target of 320 in a 45-over encounter, he blazed to his maiden century in just 83 balls, smashing 117 runs off 93 deliveries, including 12 fours and three sixes.
Contributing once again in the third match, Najmul made 35 runs and also claimed 1/10 with his off-spin, aiding his team’s five-run victory.
Najmul’s outstanding performances earned him the Player of the Series award as Bangladesh concluded their successful Super League campaign on a high note.
Despite the disappointment of Ireland’s Super League campaign, 23-year-old Harry Tector continues to shine as a key player for the team.
In the first ODI against Bangladesh in Chelmsford, Tector reached an unbeaten 21* before rain intervened. However, he made a remarkable impact in the second ODI, smashing a career-best 140 runs from just 113 balls, featuring seven fours and an astonishing 10 sixes.
What made Tector’s achievement even more impressive was the challenging situation he faced when coming to the crease with his team struggling at 16/2 in the 7th over. His powerful innings helped turn the tide, and he was dismissed only at the end of the 42nd over.
Backing up his credentials, Tector contributed 45 runs from 48 balls in the third ODI against Bangladesh.
As these star batsmen vie for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award, their exceptional performances have undoubtedly left a lasting impact on the cricketing world.
