Apple unveiled the Apple Vision Pro as its first mixed-reality headset at the Worldwide Developers Conference. The headset features two high-resolution micro-OLED displays housed in a curved aluminum and glass body. While detailed specifications were not initially revealed, new information about the displays emerged during one of Apple’s developer sessions at WWDC 2023.
According to the session on optimizing app power and performance for vision OS, the Apple Vision Pro has a display refresh rate of 90 frames per second (90Hz), similar to competitors like the Meta Quest 2 and HP Reverb G2. However, it should be noted that the Apple Vision Pro offers a higher resolution than any other VR or mixed-reality headset.
During certain tasks, such as watching a movie at 24fps, the headset’s refresh rate can be increased, aiming to reduce jitter. The Apple Vision Pro will be available in the United States in early 2024.
There is also mention of Zeiss prescription lenses for the Apple Vision Pro, which are estimated to cost between $300 to $600 per pair, indicating that the headset may have a higher price for customers who wear glasses. The pricing for the Apple Vision Pro is set at $3,499.
The headset is designed with two micro-OLED displays, an aluminum and glass body, a fabric headband, and strap. Apple claims that it can visualize a large 100-foot “virtual” display. Additionally, the Apple Vision Pro is powered by an external battery pack that can be conveniently placed in a wearer’s pocket.
