SSP Investigation Punjab police, Dr. Anoosh Masood, has provided an update on the status of women prisoners in Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore following the riots on May 9, according to a report by News Sources.
Dr. Masood clarified that currently, there are 10 women prisoners in Kot Lakhpat Jail after the incidents that took place on May 9. She personally visited the jail and spoke to the arrested women to inquire about their complaints and concerns.
Based on her interaction with the prisoners, Dr. Masood stated that they reported no issues or mistreatment in the jail. The women’s prison cells are separated from the male cells, and male officials are not allowed to enter the premises.
This statement comes in response to allegations made by former premier and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, who claimed that women prisoners were being mistreated as a tactic to pressure political leaders. Imran Khan accused the incumbent government of deliberately targeting women in an organized manner.
Imran Khan referred to the recent late-night press conference of the Interior Minister, Rana Sanaullah, as evidence of mistreatment faced by PTI women at the hands of the government. He further claimed that some women had been subjected to rape while in custody.
Imran Khan expressed his concern over the treatment of women and stated that the government was apprehensive about the potential press conferences by victimized women once they were released from jail.
The PTI chairman emphasized that mistreatment of women was an unacceptable violation of their honor and dignity, which is not only a tradition but also a religious principle in Pakistan.
Imran Khan alleged that women were being targeted as a means to spread fear and to exert pressure on political leaders. He also voiced his concern about the declining representation of women in politics, stating that 50% of the country’s population was being excluded from political participation.
Dr. Anoosh Masood’s statement provides an official perspective on the situation, assuring that the women prisoners in Kot Lakhpat Jail are not facing any issues and are being kept separately from male prisoners.
