Karachi: Health Minister Dr. Ezra Pechuho has said that there is no case of monkeypox in Sindh, monkeypox vaccine is not available in our country, so citizens should be careful, the smallpox vaccine can also work against monkeypox. The investigation is ongoing.
He expressed these views while addressing a press conference at the EPI office on the occasion of World Immunization Week.
The Sindh Health Minister further said that Immunization Week is being celebrated, come to parents’ centers, 68% of the immunization campaign has been completed while 25% of parents have not vaccinated their children.
He said that around two million children are to be vaccinated, our effort is to reach 80 ninety percent coverage, cholera vaccines are also being administered to children, and diseases are spreading rapidly among children.
With reference to monkeypox, he said that an alert has been issued at the airport and passengers who have rashes are being checked. No case of monkeypox has been reported in Sindh so far.

He said that the World Health Organization has provided 1000 kits. There is facility in Aga Khan, Dow and Civil. A suspected case of Lyari has come up. Samples of the child have been taken. Most likely it is chicken pox. I request only confirmed cases to be played in the media.
He further said that the death rate in monkey pox is very low. By looking at it with the eyes, one cannot call it a case of monkey pox, until it is confirmed, we do not tell anyone.
