Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon has announced the upcoming launch of an electric taxi service for residents of Karachi. During a transportation meeting, Memon also revealed plans to introduce pink-colored taxis specifically for female passengers.
The first phase of the project will witness the introduction of over 200 electric taxis, with 50 of them designated as pink taxis exclusively for women. Memon emphasized that the primary objective of this initiative is to offer women convenient and reliable transportation options.

The decision to launch this new taxi service stems from the substantial fare increases implemented by existing ride-hailing services in recent months. Consequently, the introduction of a more affordable taxi service has become imperative. Furthermore, Memon highlighted that the new service will promote the utilization of environmentally friendly transportation in the city.
Memon acknowledged the significant challenges faced by Sindh’s public transportation sector. In response, the government is actively working to address these issues by providing residents with modern and comfortable commuting options.
The forthcoming electric taxi service and the inclusion of pink taxis for women reflect the Sindh government’s commitment to improving public transportation and ensuring the convenience and safety of all residents, particularly women, in Karachi.
