New Delhi: The Indian court sentenced two years imprisonment to opposition leader and leader of the Congress party Rahul Gandhi under a defamation case.
According to Indian media, a defamation case was heard against Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi in the session court of Surat, Gujarat. Rahul Gandhi appeared in the court.
The court found him guilty of defamation and sentenced him to jail for two years. The court has also granted bail to Rahul Gandhi for 30 days. As a result of which, he became safe from ending up in jail. While being out, he can also appeal against the decision.

Rahul Gandhi while addressing an election rally in the 2019 general elections, imposed a question asking why all thieves have Modi as their surname.
He was actually referring to fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi and former IPL chief Lalit Modi, both involved in corruption cases. There was a lot of uproar over this statement and BJP MLA Purneesh Modi filed a defamation case against Rahul Gandi saying that this statement hurt the sentiments of the entire Modi community.
The Congress party said in a statement that Rahul Gandhi will soon challenge the decision and we will win the case.
