According to ARY News, a Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Boeing 777 aircraft has allegedly been “seized” at Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur International Airport due to a lease dispute.
The Boeing 777 was leased by Pakistan International Airlines from Malaysia. The aircraft, registered as BMH, was halted for the second time at Kuala Lumpur Airport due to unpaid dues amounting to $4 million.
The company responsible for the seizure took action following a court order and the subsequent payment of the outstanding dues.
This is not the first instance of a PIA aircraft being seized in Malaysia over a dues-related issue. The same aircraft was previously seized by Kuala Lumpur airport authorities in 2021 for the same reason. However, it was later released based on diplomatic assurances regarding the settlement of the outstanding dues.
On January 27, the seized PIA plane was returned to Pakistan along with 173 passengers and crew members onboard.
The seizure of the PIA Boeing 777 aircraft in Malaysia underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the airline in resolving lease disputes and meeting financial obligations. It highlights the importance of addressing such issues promptly to avoid disruptions in operations and safeguard the reputation of the national carrier.
