Pakistani students have achieved remarkable success at the Huawei ICT Competition 2022-2023 Global Final, held at Huawei Headquarters in Shenzhen, China. They secured the second and third prizes in the Network Track, as well as the third prizes in the Innovation Track.
The global final, the first to be conducted in person since 2019, witnessed fierce competition among 146 teams from 36 countries. Over 120,000 students from more than 2000 universities across 74 countries and regions participated in the ICT Competition.
The second prize in the Network Track was awarded to Muhammad Faeez, Asad Anwer, and Faheem Yar Khuhawar from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro, along with Maryam Fareed from Lahore College for Women University. The third prize in the same category was secured by Fatima Shafique from Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro, Eman Yaqoob from Lahore College for Women University, Umar Raza from FAST-nu Islamabad, and Muhammad Zubair from the University of Engineering and Technology Lahore, among other global teams.
In the Innovation Track, Team Glam from Pakistan, comprising Hasan Ali Khattak, Moaaz Tameer, and Sidra Farooqui, as well as Team Quran Ustads, comprising Minhal Zafar, Hyder Ali, Muhammad Shaheer, and Noor-ul-ain from FAST – National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Islamabad, secured the third prize, among other global teams.
It is worth noting that this year’s global final witnessed an increase in female contestants, with their representation exceeding 21%, an 8% rise compared to three years ago.
Acknowledging the achievements of the Middle East region, Shunli Wang, VP of Huawei Middle East & Central Asia, highlighted the importance of digital talents and skills in the development of the digital economy. Huawei remains committed to nurturing local talents and expanding ICT education resources in the region.
Stefania Giannini, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education, extended her wishes for the Huawei ICT Competition, emphasizing the event’s contribution to enhancing students’ digital skills and exploring sustainable development solutions. UNESCO fully supports Huawei’s efforts in improving global connectivity and digital skills through education.
Apart from Pakistan, teams from the Middle East and Central Asia showcased outstanding performance at the event. The UAE and Kazakhstan teams secured the first prize in the Network Track, while teams from Iraq, Jordan, and Bahrain won the second prize in the same category, among other global teams. Moreover, the Saudi Arabian team won the third prize in the Network Track, and teams from Jordan and Kazakhstan secured the third prize in the Cloud and Innovation tracks.
The Huawei ICT Competition aims to provide a platform for college students worldwide to compete and collaborate in the field of ICT. Huawei has been actively collaborating with universities, establishing Huawei ICT Academies and training over 200,000 students annually. Since its inception in 2015, more than 580,000 students from 85 countries and regions have participated in the competition.
Huawei’s commitment extends to building a total of 7,000 Huawei ICT Academies globally by 2026 and training over 1 million students each year. In the Middle East region alone, Huawei has trained over 150,000 ICT talents, with over 57,000 individuals obtaining Huawei certification. The number of Huawei ICT Academies in the region has reached 186, fostering digital literacy and skills for a dynamic and inclusive digital world.
