A plea has been submitted to the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking the release of a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporter Khadija Shah who is considered the “prime suspect” in the Jinnah House attack case.
The arrest of Khadija Shah, daughter of former finance minister Salman Shah and renowned fashion designer, in connection with the Jinnah House attack case took place on May 9. Khadija Shah, the granddaughter of the late Asif Nawaz Janjua, former Chief of Army Staff, is currently detained in Central Jail Lahore for an identification parade.
Salman Shah, the father of Khadija Shah, has filed a plea naming Punjab police and the interim government as respondents. The plea highlights that Khadija Shah has not been presented before the court since her detention and subsequent transfer to jail for the identification parade. The former finance minister appeals to the court to order the immediate release of his daughter, deeming her detention as “illegal.”
In a recent development, Khadija Shah was brought before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Lahore for the Jinnah House attack case. During the hearing, the investigating officer informed the ATC judge that the accused should be sent to jail for an identification parade. After reviewing the records, the ATC judge approved a seven-day judicial remand for Khadija Shah, ordering her confinement in jail for the identification parade.
The plea filed in the Lahore High Court seeks to challenge the detention of Khadija Shah and calls for her release, emphasizing the alleged illegality of her continued incarceration. The court’s decision on the matter will determine the course of action concerning her detention in connection with the Jinnah House attack case.
