Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan announced on Wednesday his willingness to establish a committee for dialogue and expressed his readiness to step back from politics if the panel is convinced on “two conditions,” ۔
Addressing party workers and supporters, the former Prime Minister stated that he would form a committee the following day to discuss two key issues. Firstly, if the country can function better without his involvement, he would be willing to leave politics. Secondly, he emphasized the importance of understanding the benefits of holding elections in October for the country.
Imran Khan stated that if the committee can convince him on these two matters, he is prepared to retreat for the sake of the country. He confirmed that he would make an official announcement regarding the committee formation.
This statement follows a series of major blows to the PTI, with prominent leaders such as Fawad Chaudhry, Shireen Mazari, and Fayyaz ul Chohan announcing their departure from the party. Earlier in the day, Fawad Chaudhry announced his resignation from the PTI position and his decision to part ways with Chairman Imran Khan through a tweet. He referred to his previous statement unequivocally condemning the incidents on May 9 and expressed his intention to take a break from politics.
It is worth mentioning that several PTI lawmakers and members have also left the party following the violence on May 9, which involved attacks on military installations, including the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and the Corps Commander House in Lahore, following the arrest of Imran Khan, the party chairman.
The resignation of former Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari and former Punjab Minister Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan further added to the party’s setbacks, with both citing the violence on May 9 as their reason for leaving.
In light of these developments, Imran Khan aims to initiate dialogue and address concerns through the committee, demonstrating his commitment to the country’s best interests. The PTI now faces the challenge of navigating internal divisions and rebuilding its leadership after these departures.
