In a tragic incident, two policemen were shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Mingora, Swat, according to officials. The province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been grappling with an increase in terrorism in recent months.
The outlawed militant organization, Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has intensified its attacks against security forces since ending the ceasefire with Islamabad in November last year.
In response, Pakistani security forces have escalated their operations against militants in their efforts to eradicate the menace of terrorism, which had been significantly suppressed in the recent past.
The two constables, identified as Umra Khan and Ashraf Ali, were shot near Mingora’s Sabzi Mandi area in the morning. They were rushed to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, they succumbed to their injuries.
Following the incident, the police cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation. Two “suspects” were apprehended in the vicinity.
Reports suggest that three armed attackers involved in the shootout managed to escape. Measures are underway to locate and apprehend them.
This incident in Swat comes on the heels of an attack on a police post in Peshawar’s Sarband area late Tuesday night, following the killing of a militant in Matani.
According to The News, both sides engaged in heavy firing, with the vigilant police retaliating. Fortunately, no casualties were reported among the law enforcement personnel.
Some sources mentioned that a rocket was fired at the remote post.
Police stations and posts in this region of Peshawar have been targeted multiple times in the past two years, with assailants employing automatic weapons and grenades.
