ISLAMABAD: It has been agreed between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf that elections will be held on the same day across the country.
Federal Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar said this while talking to the media at the end of the third round of negotiations between the parties. Pakistan Muslim League (N) central leader Ishaq Dar claimed that previously, it was agreed that the elections would be held by caretaker governments.
He said that both the parties participated in the negotiation process with positive thinking, and both the parties proposed the dates of the elections separately, the dates of both the parties were flexible but they did not agree on a date, the proposals were discussed in detail. PTI Senior Vice Chairman Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi while talking to the media later said that the government wants to hold elections in the country on the same day.
He said that the decision of the Supreme Court was in accordance with the spirit of the constitution, and it should have been implemented, he wanted elections to be held in Punjab on May 14, and the assemblies of Qaumi, Sindh, and Balochistan should be dissolved before May 14.
Former Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that he agreed with the proposal to hold elections in the country on the same day, but could not agree on the date of election and dissolution of constituencies. He said that we as a party tried to move towards consensus, this negotiation process should not be used as a delaying tactic, we agreed that the elections should be in accordance with the constitution.
Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 90 days are prohibited by the constitution. We want elections to be held on May 14.

He said that PDM wants elections to be held simultaneously in the entire country including Punjab. The Punjab Assembly, Sindh Assembly and Balochistan Assembly should be dissolved on May 14. We said that elections should be held within 60 days of the dissolution of the assemblies. Constitutional amendments will have to be made to move the elections beyond 60 days. PTI should go to the Assembly for constitutional amendments.
