The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly expressed its opposition to Pakistan’s proposed hybrid model for the Asia Cup 2023, which has resulted in the ongoing controversy surrounding the status of the tournament. According to a report by Press Trust of India (PTI), the BCCI will not support the proposal put forward by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee Chairman Najam Sethi.
Sethi had shared a proposal with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in an attempt to address Indian concerns regarding the event being held in Islamabad. While some ACC members were open to the hybrid model, the BCCI remains hesitant to disclose its position on the matter.
The PTI report states that the BCCI is unwilling to support Sethi’s proposal, which suggests hosting four preliminary rounds and two super four games in Pakistan, while India’s matches and the final would be held at a neutral venue.

During an informal discussion with several members of the continental body in Ahmedabad, ACC Chairman Jay Shah, who is also the BCCI secretary, made the Indian board’s stance clear, according to the Indian news agency.
The final decision regarding the matter will be made by the executive body of the ACC, with a meeting expected to take place soon.
Due to strained political relations, bilateral cricket between India and Pakistan remains suspended, and they only face each other in multi-team events.
In response to the possibility of staging the entire Asia Cup in another country, such as the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan has threatened to boycott the World Cup, scheduled to be held in India in October-November.
