In a video message, Zaidi expressed his initial motivation for joining politics, stating that he had joined for the betterment of Pakistan and had already condemned the incidents that occurred on May 9.
Zaidi acknowledged the pride and importance of Pakistan’s armed forces, emphasizing that they protect the country’s borders and enable its citizens to sleep peacefully. He strongly condemned the events of May 9 and stressed the need for accountability for all those involved.
After careful consideration, Zaidi made the difficult decision to step away from politics, announcing his resignation from his positions as Tehreek-e-Insaf Sindh president, core committee member, and Member of the National Assembly (MNA).
While he is leaving politics, Zaidi expressed his commitment to continuing his efforts to serve Pakistan and attract foreign investments, as he had done before entering politics. He mentioned his past role in bringing foreign exchange to Pakistan and expressed his desire to resume such work.
Zaidi concluded his video statement with a pro-army slogan, highlighting his support for the armed forces and their contribution to the nation.
Zaidi, along with other high-ranking PTI leaders and numerous party workers, was detained following the violence that erupted after the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan on May 9.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Asim Munir, denounced the events as a “Black Day” and vowed to ensure that all individuals involved in attacking military installations face justice.
The military leadership has resolved that restraint will no longer be exercised against those who vandalize military installations and disrupt operations.
Zaidi was arrested on May 9 under Section 4 of the Maintenance of Public Order and placed under house arrest, with his residence in the port city declared a sub-jail.
While rumors circulated about Zaidi leaving PTI, he clarified in a press conference on May 17 that he had entered politics through the PTI platform and would not abandon it under any circumstances.
However, on the same night, the Sindh government swiftly moved Zaidi to Jacobabad jail and revoked his house arrest orders, despite his recent affirmation of loyalty to PTI and Imran Khan.
Ali Zaidi’s decision to quit politics and relinquish his party positions marks another notable development in the evolving political landscape, raising questions about the future direction of PTI and the shifting dynamics within the party.
