The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has successfully apprehended 12 alleged terrorists associated with the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and ISIS in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) carried out across different cities of Punjab. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mir Ahmed, Habibur Rehman, Imran Muddasir, Zia, Adeel, and Farooq.
The IBO, conducted by the CTD, targeted the suspected terrorists in Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Gujranwala. Alongside the arrests, the CTD spokesperson reported the recovery of explosive materials and equipment that are typically used in the manufacturing of suicide vests. These findings serve as crucial evidence in linking the arrested individuals to potential terrorist activities.
In addition to this operation, the CTD has made notable progress in counterterrorism efforts throughout the week. They have conducted a total of 249 combing operations, resulting in the arrest of 40 suspects. Furthermore, over 12,112 individuals were questioned as part of these extensive combing operations. These proactive measures aim to ensure the safety and security of the general public by identifying and neutralizing potential threats.
Prior to this operation, the CTD of the Punjab police engaged in a shootout with two terrorists associated with the proscribed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), leading to their elimination. This encounter highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism and maintain peace within the region.
The successful apprehension of these alleged terrorists, along with the recovery of explosive materials, underscores the importance of continuous intelligence-based operations in dismantling extremist networks and maintaining law and order. The CTD’s vigilant and proactive approach is instrumental in ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of Punjab and the nation as a whole.
