Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry is expected to play a significant role in a new political party being established by Jehangir Khan Tareen, according to sources. Chaudhry, who recently left PTI, had a telephone conversation with Tareen to discuss their future political plans. Tareen has become active in politics again and has started consultations in preparation for launching the new party.
Several politicians who recently resigned from PTI are reportedly in contact with Tareen, and he has met with two key leaders to discuss their potential joining of the new party. Various former PTI leaders, including Chaudhry and Firdous Ashiq Awan, along with some leaders from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, have expressed their willingness to join Tareen’s upcoming party.
Chaudhry is expected to announce his support for Tareen in the coming days. Tareen has been considering different names for the new party from among former PTI leaders. Tareen, who was previously the secretary general of PTI but was disqualified in 2017, will serve as the patron-in-chief of the new party.
Tensions between Tareen and Imran Khan, the leader of PTI, have strained their relationship, leading to Tareen’s sidelining from the party. However, Tareen remained part of PTI after his disqualification and played a role in bringing independent lawmakers to join the party after the 2018 elections.
In April of last year, during a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan, a group of PTI dissidents emerged in support of Tareen, including Raja Riaz, Aleem Khan, and Awn Chaudhry. Earlier this year, reports surfaced that Aleem Khan and Tareen, along with other PTI dissidents, were planning to launch a new party.
