Emirates Airlines, under the leadership of President Sir Tim Clark, has revealed its intention to place a substantial aircraft purchase order. The airline aims to acquire between 100 and 150 aircraft as a replacement for its current Airbus A380 fleet, which is scheduled to be phased out in the early 2030s.
Clark confirmed this strategic move during an interview at the International Air Transport Association’s Annual General Meeting held in Istanbul.
In considering their options, Emirates is evaluating the addition of more Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 models to their fleet. There is also a possibility of including the smaller Boeing 787 Dreamliner in their purchase plans. Clark expressed that the airline will soon initiate the process of placing these orders.
Emirates has set a timeline for fulfilling these aircraft orders between 2027 and 2033, aligning with the retirement schedule of their A380 fleet in 2032. Clark acknowledged the current strong demand for air travel but mentioned a potential market slowdown around the middle of next year.
The official announcement of this significant order is expected to occur as early as next week or potentially during the Dubai Airshow. Emirates is taking proactive measures to ensure its fleet remains modern and efficient in the forthcoming years.
