The highly acclaimed Netflix web show, ‘Wednesday,’ is set to delve deeper into the Latina heritage of its talented actress, Jenna Ortega, in its second season.
During an interview with an American entertainment news website, the show’s co-creators, Miles Millar and Al Gough, shared their plans for the upcoming season. Millar expressed his admiration for Jenna Ortega’s exceptional acting skills, emphasizing the rarity of finding an iconic Latina character like the one she portrays.
“It’s so rare to find an iconic [Latina] character of this stature,” Millar said. “We really try to find ways to [highlight that] authentically. What would Wednesday listen to when she was growing up? What would [Selena] Gomez be playing? And finding moments where we could really make it feel like a girl who’s grown up in New Jersey with a Latino parent, and how would that resonate with her as a teen? Certainly, this season we’re looking for more ways to explore that.”
‘Wednesday’ is a highly acclaimed web show that follows the story of a young goth named Wednesday Addams, who enrolls in Nevermore Academy to develop her psychic abilities and investigate a crime that occurred twenty years ago.
In addition to Ortega, the show features a star-studded cast, including Christina Ricci, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Gwendoline Christie, and Emma Myers in pivotal roles.
‘Wednesday’ garnered widespread critical acclaim and received two Golden Globe nominations this year. Jenna Ortega was in contention for the Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy award, while the show itself was nominated for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.
As the second season of ‘Wednesday’ unfolds, audiences can anticipate a more profound exploration of Jenna Ortega’s character’s Latina heritage, adding an authentic and relatable dimension to the series.
