The pace of advancements in artificial intelligence is so rapid that a museum in San Francisco has envisioned a memorial to humanity’s demise. Welcome to the “Misalignment Museum,” a new exhibit showcasing controversial technology that mixes unsettling with amusing.
Visitors are greeted by a monitor displaying the message, “Sorry for killing most of the human person with smile cap and mustache,” setting the tone for the show. The exhibit’s pieces include pithy observations from the AI that monitor visitors within their line of vision.
According to the exhibit’s curator, Audrey Kim, the concept of the museum is a post-apocalyptic world where artificial general intelligence has destroyed most of humanity. The tagline of the exhibit is “sorry for killing most of humanity” because the AI recognizes the harm it has caused and creates a memorial to humanity.
The concept of Artificial General Intelligence, which is explored in the exhibit, is even more complex and abstract than the AI we currently use in our daily lives, such as chatbots and other popular apps.
