The President wrote in the letter that the Election Commission should issue the election program under Section 57-2 of the Constitution Act. The President said that the Constitution and the law do not allow a delay of more than 90 days. I consider it necessary to fulfill my constitutional and legal duty to announce the date of elections to avoid violation of the Constitution.
Both Governors (Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) are not fulfilling their constitutional obligations to confirm the election date within 90 days after the dissolution of the provincial assemblies.
Dr. Arif Alvi said that the Election Commission of Pakistan is also not fulfilling its constitutional responsibility to conduct the elections of the assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This practice creates a serious risk of delay and violation of constitutional provisions.
