Pakistan and Italy have reached an agreement to establish a joint framework aimed at tackling climate change and enhancing cooperation in water management. The agreement was reached during the 5th meeting of the “Pakistan-Italy Joint Economic Commission” held at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome.
Senator Sherry Rehman, the Federal Minister for Climate Change, represented Pakistan, while Italy’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, led the Italian delegation. The meeting also witnessed the announcement of the upcoming opening of an Italian Trade Agency office in Islamabad, with the participation of businessmen from both Pakistan and Italy.
During the event, Senator Sherry Rehman expressed her pleasure at co-chairing the meeting and highlighted the shared commitment to building a collaborative framework with Italy to address climate change and improve water management.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a significant Roadmap for Cooperation. The roadmap encompasses various areas of collaboration, including climate change, trade and investment, heritage, culture, agriculture, higher education, technical cooperation, and technology transfer.
The establishment of a joint framework between Pakistan and Italy signifies their mutual dedication to combating the challenges posed by climate change and ensuring effective water management. This collaboration holds the potential to foster sustainable development, strengthen bilateral ties, and contribute to the global efforts in addressing pressing environmental concerns.
