A recent report from ARY News has revealed that the residents of Karachi are facing a significant increase in street crimes. In the first three months of 2023 alone, over 19,000 individuals were robbed, with incidents of motorbike snatching and gunpoint robberies continuing to occur regularly.
According to the report, stolen items included motorcycles, cellphones, and automobiles, and tragically, 34 individuals lost their lives while resisting robberies. The recorded number of street crimes is alarmingly high, with over 7,000 incidents in January, 6,500 in February, and over 6,000 in March 2023.
Despite the release of CCTV footage capturing many of these incidents, authorities have been unable to capture the perpetrators. Moreover, the recovery rate of stolen belongings during various operations was less than 5 percent. This is a concerning situation that requires immediate intervention to ensure the safety of Karachi’s citizens.
