New Delhi: After taking the vote, India’s Modi government turned its eyes away from its retired
soldiers.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised ‘one rank, one pension’ to ex-servicemen to win votes before the election, but after winning the election, he cheated the retired Indian soldiers.
At an election rally in Haryana in 2013 and in Siachen in 2014 while addressing soldiers, Narendra Modi promised one rank-one pension to them.
Thousands of retired soldiers, including former General VK Singh of India, voted for the BJP by trusting Modi’s promise, but after winning the elections, the oblivious Modi government forgot the promise and the retired soldiers could not get a rank and a pension.

Thousands of ex-servicemen staged protests against the Modi government, the participants of which were tortured. After the violence among the protesters, 10 former army chiefs condemned Modi in a letter and demanded a commission of inquiry. Subedar Ram Kishan committed suicide on the rejection of demands.
So far, more than 5,000 retired Indian soldiers have returned their medals in protest to the Modi government. Despite the clear orders of the Supreme Court of India, the government approved the amended bill, but retired soldiers rejected the bill.
According to the Modi government, with the approval of the bill, only 40% of the defense budget will be devoted to pensions.
