The Supreme Court judges Justice Qazi Faiz Isa and Justice Sardar Tariq Masood have written a letter to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, urging him to convene a meeting of the Judicial Council to review the allegations against Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar Naqvi.
The Pakistan Bar Association has filed a complaint against Naqvi, and the letter emphasises that a meeting should be called to determine the truth of the allegations.
The judges believe Naqvi’s honour should be restored if the allegations are false. Still, if they are true, the constitution must take appropriate action.
The letter highlights that the allegations against Justice Mazahir Naqvi cast a shadow over his honour and the judiciary’s credibility. To uphold the judiciary’s independence and regain public trust, it is crucial to immediately convene a meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council to investigate the matter.
It should be noted that the bar councils of the country have announced their intention to file a reference against Justice Mazahir Naqvi over the audio leak issue of former Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi. References have already been filed by the Balochistan Bar Council and others against the judge.
