The Lahore High Court has suspended the order to accept the resignation of 43 National Assembly members of Pakistan Tahreek Insaf. Recently, a hearing was held on the related application and Justice Shahid Karim heard the application on resignation.
The former 43 members of the National Assembly, including Riyaz Fatiana, appeared on behalf of the National Assembly. He put forward that 43 members had written to the Speaker on January 23 to withdraw their resignations. However, the Speaker did not conduct an inquiry before accepting the resignation and hence never appeared before the court.

In the petition, it was argued that the members of the assembly had withdrawn their resignations before they were accepted. After the resignation withdrawal, the speaker loses the power to accept the resignation.
The petitioner’s counsel said that the Speaker cannot accept the resignation without hearing the members. The Lahore High Court suspended the order accepting the resignation of 43 MNAs of Tehreek-e-Insaf. The court issued notices to the Election Commission and other parties and suspended the by-elections in 43 constituencies until further notice.
