It is with profound sadness that noted poet and writer Amjad Islam Amjad passed away at the age of 78 in Lahore on Friday. According to family sources, Amjad suffered a fatal heart attack at his home and was taken to the nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Amjad Islam Amjad is a true icon of Urdu literature and a symbol of excellence and dedication to the art form. He is a distinguished Pakistani author and scholar who was born on August 4, 1944, in Lahore. After completing his Masters in Urdu from the University of Punjab in 1967. He was appointed as an Urdu professor at the MAO College Lahore.
Having had a successful career spanning 50 years, he has written more than 40 books and penned screenplays for popular dramas such as Waris, Dehleez, Samandar, and Raat. His contributions to Pakistani literature have been rewarded with prestigious awards such as the Sitara-e-Imtiaz (1998) and Pride of Performance (1987).
Throughout his esteemed career, he held leading positions in numerous government institutions, including the Urdu Science Board and the Children’s Library Complex. President Dr. Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and other dignitaries have expressed deep grief and sorrow upon the passing of the renowned poet Amjad Islam Amjad. His tireless efforts to promote literacy and foster creativity will be remembered for generations to come.
