PESHAWAR: On Tuesday, Governor Haji Ghulam Ali of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) called upon all political parties to sign a charter of the economy with the aim of fortifying the country’s economic stability.
Addressing the media during a function held at the Governor’s House, where he presented a cheque of Rs10 million to the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) for the construction of its office in Peshawar, Governor Ghulam Ali emphasized the need for a charter of economy. He highlighted the recent destruction of public and private property caused by the unruly behavior of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf workers on May 9 and 10, stating that it was imperative for politicians to come together and sign the charter to prevent future disruptions to trade and commercial activities.
Governor Ghulam Ali expressed his views on the matter, stating, “Political differences are an integral part of democracy, but they should not escalate into animosity and irrational protests that show no regard for public and private property.” He further suggested that a robust charter of democracy, endorsed by all political parties, ensuring consistency in economic activities and policies, could attract foreign investment to the country.
The governor revealed that he had discussed this matter with former President Asif Ali Zardari, further emphasizing the significance of a unified approach towards economic stability.
Governor Ghulam Ali also welcomed the government’s decision to initiate barter trade with Iran, Afghanistan, and Russia, believing that this move would have a positive impact on the country’s economy. He added that efforts were underway to involve more countries in this traditional business practice.
Regarding the payment of dues to TransPeshawar, the operator of BRT buses, Governor Ghulam Ali confirmed that approximately 50 percent of the payment had already been made to the firm.
He also highlighted the importance of the FPCCI office, which will serve as a center for promoting trade and investment in the region. Governor Ghulam Ali emphasized that the construction of the FPCCI office would be a collaborative effort between the business community and the government.
