Justice Aminuddin Khan recused himself from the five-member bench hearing the case after a Supreme Court order halted proceedings under Article 184(3).
The hearing was delayed as a result of this recusal. The larger bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial and comprising four other justices, has been hearing the case daily since Monday.
After the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) filed a plea against the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision to defer the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elections.
The ECP had postponed the Punjab polls from April 30 to October 8 due to financial and security concerns.

During the hearing, Justice Mandokhail discussed the case’s merits even though the court order had yet to be issued.
One of the main issues being debated is whether the March 1 verdict of the Supreme Court was rejected by a 4-3 majority or accepted by a 3-2 majority.
The Supreme Court has reportedly requested the government’s assurances to reduce the country’s political tension.
