The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has summoned the Director General (DG) Rangers and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to appear in person on June 5 in the case of Murad Akbar’s recovery. Murad Akbar is the brother of former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Accountability, Shahzad Akbar, who was allegedly “picked up” last week according to the former SAPM’s claim.
The plea for the recovery of Shahzad Akbar’s brother was heard by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Naqvi Kiani at the IHC. The court directed the defense ministry to ensure the presence of the DG Rangers at the next hearing of the case.
Justice Kiani remarked that if the authorities fail to recover the “missing” Murad Akbar, he will summon the interior minister and later the prime minister. He further stated that if the law and order situation within the 36-kilometer radius is so dire, it would be better for the government to step down.
The IHC has adjourned the further hearing on the case until June 5.
It should be noted that the police have detained thousands of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and supporters for their alleged involvement in the violent turmoil that ensued after the arrest of the party chairman in Islamabad last month.
