Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali has stated that the security situation in the province is not conducive for holding provincial assembly elections. Speaking to reporters at the provincial headquarters of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F), he said that the Supreme Court shares his opinion on this matter.
The governor also expressed gratitude to the court for being “lenient” with KP regarding elections. Along with members of the provincial caretaker cabinet, Ali visited the JUI-F’s provincial headquarters to condole the death of the federal minister for religious affairs Mufti Abdul Shakoor, who was killed in a road accident in Islamabad on Saturday.

He expressed his gratitude to the Supreme Court for being “lenient” with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regarding elections. He also said that there was no ambiguity regarding the holding of elections within 90 days of the assembly’s dissolution but that it was his job to announce the poll date.
The governor claimed that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf led by former prime minister Imran Khan did not push for elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as it did for Punjab polls and that the security situation in various districts of the province was precarious.
